i share at least one thing in common with the lovely ellen - we kinda love the old school bookstore in my neighborhood. said bookstore is 4 blocks from my apartment and you can find me there every saturday and sunday with a cup of tea and a stack of reading - you know, weekend homework. ellen lives two hours away and let’s just say she’s the sharp one and the taller one from what i can tell. all of that, and she just tipped me off that this guy will be at my bookstore this weekend! guess where i will be at 4 o’clock on saturday? tough call when you’re not sure if you have a bigger crush on a cute, funny guy or his cute, witty fiance.

What a better first meeting with Maura than one that involves swooning over JK in the flesh? (I’m still upset that he’s engaged…)

Bowery Ballroom, can we start a movement to ditch Ticketmaster? For $15 tickets they charge over 20% for a “convenience charge” ($3.10 per ticket), then charge between $14.50 and $19.50 to print and send you your tickets.

If you want real tickets, the price jumps from $30 to $55.70. So for a company that handles massive quantities of printing and shipping, mostly electronically, they make roughly 2/3 (after UPS charge) of the what the venue, crew, equipment, band, and label take in combined. Robbery.

I don’t even want to calculate all of the bullshit fees I’ve paid to Ticketmaster over the last few years.

Bramble, a biologist at the University of Utah, wrote that several characteristics unique to humans suggested endurance running played an important role in our evolution.

Most mammals can sprint faster than humans — having four legs gives them the advantage. But when it comes to long distances, humans can outrun almost any animal. Because we cool by sweating rather than panting, we can stay cool at speeds and distances that would overheat other animals. On a hot day, the two scientists wrote, a human could even outrun a horse in a 26.2-mile marathon.
